MISSION STATEMENT

UTC’s mission is to offer broad "multifaceted" tooling support to North American companies that exceeds customer expectations and is superior to other competitive alternatives
when evaluated from a total cost perspective.

When working within UTC’s structure,
member companies will offer synergistic cost savings advantages, and develop long-term performance improvements with
their customers.
A team of tool companies based in Michigan have banded together to form the United Tooling Coalition. Michigan’s tooling industry leads the world manufacturing and engineering capabilities that support automotive tooling. The synergistic strength of a Michigan-based tooling coalition cannot be beat by anyone – anywhere in the world.

Delivering only what you need, when you need it, the UTC allows customers to select from among its services á la carte creating a customized experience for each project. The result: highly competitive bids for even the most complex projects.

Looking to lower costs by sourcing related parts or assemblies? With one call, UTC will provide crosscoalition program management and functional build services for its clients.

Need to reduce costs from engineering changes? UTC provides early product evaluations and process simulation.

The United Tooling Coalition was formed in 2003 as a unique collaboration of die and mold makers. It combines the technologies and services of North American manufacturers to build competitive tooling for today’s global market.

The UTC, initially funded by the State of Michigan and members, was formed under the leadership of the Center For Automotive Research (CAR) and headed by Dr. Jay Baron. Dr. Baron is an expert in the study of auto body panel assembly, specifically the practice of functional build.

In 2005, the UTC expanded to 15 companies and 2 subgroups, the Die Specialty Group and Mold Group.
